Alumni and Career

Stay in touch, build networks, and reach out
There will be opportunities and resources available for you as a student at departments and at university level, where you can meet professionals, learn about the labour market, work on your job seeking skills, develop your network, and get support while figuring out the next steps. It is never too early to start thinking ahead!

Career Resources for YOU

Career is a daunting topic, and we hear again and again that these are hard times for those trying to enter the labour market. This is why during your studies we strongly encourage you to keep reflecting on what skills and knowledge you are gaining, what your personal red-thread is, and to take opportunities when they arise! Check out some of the resources below to help you on your next steps after your studies.

At Graduate School

  • DPS (Development Practitioner Seminar Series)

Graduate School also organizes the Development Practitioner Seminar (DPS) series during the Spring semester, which invites practitioners from the broader development field to come and talk with students about their experiences. These are opportunities for you to learn more about what some career paths can look like, and how to prepare for them.

  • Career Advice/Study Advice

On questions related to linking your studies to your career, book an appointment with our study advisor.

At the Faculty of Social Sciences

  • S-Career

While your (and our) focus will be on your studies, it is important to seek out these opportunities and also try to build up your own portfolio as early as possible in your studies. Your main assignment here is to work to reflect on what kind of opportunities you are looking for, what kind of skills and competencies you need, what your limitations and opportunities are. Be pro-active and open! For those of you who would like the option of finding work in Sweden after your studies, you should probably learn Swedish.

Connect with employers and job opportunities

Lund University has implemented a new system of advertising available positions to students; called MyCareer, http://mycareer.lu.se/. The platform gives students and employers better opportunities to come into contact with each other, both regionally and internationally.
