Activities during your 1st Year

In addition to the official programmes and classes, Graduate School offers its students a unique package of opportunities in the first year to make the transition to your studies easier, and once you are at Graduate School, to help you settle in and feel at home. These activities are a mixture of academic support, social activities, reflection seminars, workshops and seminar series.

Graduate School Summer Platform

Shortly after you receive your acceptance letter you will be invited to sign up to an introductory, completely voluntary online platform to get you started in your studies. The platform gives you the opportunity to begin reading up on your programme topic through literature selected by your programme coordinator. You will also have the chance to improve your academic writing skills through a quiz and other resources. Lou will also have the chance to meet your future classmates and second-year students who will act as mentors on the platform. The online platform will be run during the entire month of July and August.

Arrival Day

Arrival Day is held a few weeks before the official programme start and is the official day for international students to arrive in Lund. Once admitted, you will receive all the information you need to know what to expect on this day. A staff member from Graduate School will be present at Arrival Day to welcome you and answer any questions you may have. More information on Arrival Day and activities for international students at Lund University can be found here.

Introduction Week and Meet Your Coordinator Day

Lund University organizes a series of events and activities the week after Arrival Day, so make sure you don't miss this! During this week Graduate School holds a Meet Your Coordinator Day where you will be invited to a coffee and snack (fika) in your future student lounge, and where you will meet the administrative staff from Graduate School as well as finally meet your future classmates in person.

Programme Introduction

The programme introduction is the official start of the programme.  On this day you will register to the programme, meet your future classmates, all administrative staff, and receive a tour of important buildings in the area, the student lounge and your future classrooms. You will meet your programme director and be introduced to the programme, and finally you will be met by the head of the department where you will eventually be writing your thesis. It is a long day but we will make sure there is enough food and coffee/tea during the breaks!

Autumn Potluck

After settling in for a few weeks, we organize an annual potluck dinner, inviting everyone to bring a dish to share with everyone. Whether it's a national dish, a new discovery, or just an old favorite, all dishes are welcome!

Development Practitioner Seminar Series

The DPS series where development practitioners are invited to come speak with you about their work experiences begins in January. This is a unique opportunity to get a personal perspective on specific sectors and organizations, learn more about different career paths and life/work balances, and build up your network. Both 1st and 2nd year Graduate School students are invited to particiapte.

Spring Lunch

Graduate School organizes a spring lunch around a certain theme that can be of interest to students. In the past we have had PhD students at the faculty come and talk about their experiences.
