*** LAST CALL: Programme Registration Forms!

Most new Graduate School students have already completed the Programme Registration Form in the packet that was handed out at the Programme Introduction Day and later made available at the Student Reception, but there are still a few students who still have not done this. If you have not picked up an information packet from the Student Reception, please do so as soon as possible. Inside you will find a registration form that must be completed and returned to the student receptionist on duty.

 

Students who do not complete a registration form will not be registered to the programme.  


Turn in your registration sheet no later than Friday, September 26th. The Student Reception is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 – 13.

 

*** Registration Update for Conditionally Admitted Students

New students who are conditionally admitted to the programme must submit official proof of completion of undergraduate studies or they will not be registered to courses or programmes. If you are not sure if you are conditionally admitted, check your Notification of Admissions Results on UniversityAdmissions.se. Conditionally admitted students who have not submitted proof of completion of the undergraduate degree must turn this in to Milan Burke as soon as possible. Contact milan [dot] burke [at] sam [dot] lu [dot] se (milan[dot]burke[at]sam[dot]lu[dot]se) to arrange a time to drop off your documents.

The Admissions Department is currently reviewing documents from students who have already turned in diplomas and/or transcripts to Graduate School. At this time we are waiting for approval from the Admissions Department before Graduate School is able to register you for the first course and/or the programme. They are reviewing degree documents from the entire university’s conditionally admitted students, so this process can take time. Unfortunately the Admissions Department is unable to provide us with an estimate of how long this will take, but Graduate School will register you as soon as it is possible for us to do so.

Swedish degree students who are waiting for the degree to be issued: If you have already turned in a copy of your transcript, then Graduate School is waiting for the Admissions Department to issue an exemption that will allow you to be registered for the first course. Once the Admissions Department approves this exemption, Graduate School will register you for the first course.
Once you receive your degree, email milan [dot] burke [at] sam [dot] lu [dot] se (milan[dot]burke[at]sam[dot]lu[dot]se) with your personal number and you will be registered for the programme.

International Degree students: If you have already turned in your diploma and transcript, then Graduate School is awaiting approval from the Admissions Department to register you for both the course and the programme. Graduate School will contact you when your degree documents are ready for pick up.

***Guest lecture by Sheba Saeed, Visiting Researcher from Burmingham, Sep 24th 15-16, R240

 

Dr. Sheba Saeed will be presenting some of her research on begging in the UK, Denmark and Sweden at a seminar for Graduate School students. More information as well as a sign-up will be sent out to you in the coming days. This will be followed by the potluck.

Graduate School will hold its annual potluck for both 1st and 2nd year students. We invite you to bring a dish to share- it can be from your home country or any other dish that you enjoy preparing and sharing. We will provide plates, plastic-ware, and drinks. ***Application for exchange studies now open!

 

If you want to apply for exchange studies for the autumn term of 2016, now is the time! The announcements in this application round are mostly university wide agreements such as North America, Australia, New Zealand and the Nordic countries. There will be another application round open in February for the Faculty Agreements (mostly within Europe and in Asia). If you need advice you are welcome to visit the Faculty International Coordinator, Katarina Follin, on Tuesdays 10-12 am. More information and a link to the application can be found here.

 

***Reminder to read Student Handbook and complete Student Handbook Quiz

 

It has been a while since you received the Student Handbook in paper form, and we hope you have had a chance to read through it! To test your knowledge, we have come up with a quiz that is available online. Some of you have already completed the quiz, but we are looking for one winner for each programme, and so far we are still missing a winner for one of the programmes. We will announce  the winners of  ´the autumn potluck. To access the handbook, see here, and to access the quiz, see here. The last day to complete the quiz is September 20th. The winners will be announced at the potluck.

***SASNET (Swedish South Asian Studies Network): Fika Without Borders

 

The South Asian Student Association (SASA) at Lund University organizes its fifth 2015 Fika without borders seminar, this time focusing on The Maldives, on Thursday 1 October 2015,  from 17–19, at the the basement floor of  Lund University External Relations (ER) building, Stora Algatan 4, Lund. The Maldives seminar consists of two informal talks about the Maldives; one on climate change risks and tourism, and another on journalistic freedom in the country. The event is open for everyone, so join feel free to join  us for an  inspiring  talks, food and meeting new people.

 

Fika Without Borders South Asia events is a project started by SASA, in collaboration with SASNET, in which SASA organises  fika once every  month, with  focus on one of the eight South Asian countries. Upcoming events are  a Bangladesh seminar  slated for October 22nd, and an Afghanistan seminar on November 26th.

***Glocal Development Talks, Sept 20-23rd

 

In September voices from South Asia will meet politicians, academics and organizations in Sweden for a four day conference on sustainable development, equality and development cooperation policy. Glocal Development Talks! is arranged by The Swallows India Bangladesh  on September 20th-23rd at the City Library and AF-borgen in Lund.

 

Glocal Development Talks! is an opportunity to meet representatives from grassroots organizations from South Asia and Latin America to hear about the positive effects of Swedish development cooperation. We will discuss the Swedish Policy for Global Development (PGU) and the new Sustainable Development Goals, feminist foreign policy and climate justice in relation to development assistance and human rights.

 

Glocal Development Talks! is arranged in collaboration with Future Earth, FIAN Sweden, Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies, Solidarity Sweden-Latin America, Lund Municipality, Region Skåne and Klimatsamverkan Skåne.

***Association of Student Affairs (UPF) lecture 16 September

 

Qias Fares: Silence & Conspiracy – Syrian media & the refugee crisis

 

UPF (Uterikespolitiska förening) Lecture -  Qias Fares  is an independent journalist  who fled from Syria 2011 after covering  the first pro-democracy protest in Syria. His lectures would be  on the current refugee crisis in Europe.  He will be sharing observations on how the pro Assad media outlet reports on the current situation in Syria!

***The Color Run, Lund 2015, 19 September


The color run is a 5 kilometre run that takes place all over Europe and will be taking place in Lund on September 19th. Thousands of runners - all starting in a white T-shirt - get covered in clouds of pigmented powder which color them from head to toe. Once the runner finishes, the fun continues at the "Color Festival", where more color powder is thrown in the air, making every runner look like a walking rainbow. The run starts at 9.00 am.

***VästerGympa – free outdoor circuit training

VästerGympa is a free, community outdoor circuit training group. While exercising you have the chance to socialise with local Swedes/Swedish families and other international people living in Lund. In addition to English and Swedish, several other languages are also spoken within the group.  The event is between Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from  10:00-11:00am and night time on Wednesday 19:00-20:00pm. Meet up point: Coop Nära, Örnvägen 62 Lund.
