Academic Support Centre Lecture on Thesis Writing
The Academic Support Centre is a free service open to all students studying courses and programmes conducted in English. The centre provides individual and group consultations (including feedback on texts), workshops, and seminars on topics in three areas: academic texts and the writing process; speaking and presentation skills; reading and study skills. This spring term they offer a lecture on the thesis writing process. To attend, please sign up in the form available on the website.

Seminar: Autoethnography as Method
Shahram Khosravi, professor, Department of Social Anthropology, Stockholm University
Auto-ethnography is a writing style with personal experiences interjected into ethnographic writing. As a form of self-narrative, auto-ethnography places the self within a social context. An interesting aspect of this genre is that the distinction between ethnographer and others becomes blurred. Auto-ethnography links the world of the author with the world of others. Based on my own experiences as migrant, anthropologist and public intellectual, I will explore what emerges from the space in between.

Panel Discussion: “Transforming Water from a Strategy of War to an Asset for Peace”
Panel discussion on Water in Peacebuilding Activities. The Law Faculty in collaboration with the Geneva Water Hub and the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcome you to an open panel discussion on Water in Post-Conflict Situations and the Role of the Security Council to reflect on the way forward to overcome the main obstacles when dealing with water issues in the aftermath of armed conflict and to examine the potential of water in and in peacebuilding processes. The panelists are: Catarina de Albuquerque, Sanitation and Water for All; Daniëlla Dam-de Jong, Leiden Univesrity; David Michel, Stockholm International Water Institute; François Münger, Genera Water Hub; Lisa Svensson, UN Environment; Mark Zeitoun, University of East Anglia. The aim of the panel discussion is to share the results of a 2 day Expert’s Workshop held in Lund 15-16 February to a broader audiences and involve interested researchers and students in the academic community. Lecture: Migrants don’t fall from the sky
Jesse Ribot, Professor of Geography and of Anthropology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
It was 60,000 years ago when humans first started crossing seas to venture out of Africa to explore; and seek greener pastures thereby occupying every inch of the earth. It is argued that this migration was caused by the earth’s climatic shifts resulting from the Ice Age and from the looks of things today, people amicably settled were they wanted. Fast forward to the 21st Century migration is still occurring and unlike the old school migration, the modern one is sandwiched with many variables accompanied with a side plate of different push factors. Factors and variables that will be explored and discussed indepthly at AAFRA’s public lecturer.

Seminar: Is India rising? Reflections on Indian foreign policy and its limitations
Henrik Chetan Aspengren, research fellow at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs; and Associated researcher, Lund University, Swedish South Asian Studies Network, SASNET.
In this lecture Henrik Chetan Aspengren will give a broad historic overview of India’s foreign policy, paying attention to its domestic and ideological roots. He then turns to a discussion on the possibilities of and limitations to New Delhi’s present attempts to promote India as an emerging global power. India’s policy approach towards three main geopolitical arenas will be discussed: South Asia, The Indo-Pacific, and the EU.

Documentary Screening and conversation in Copenhagen: “The Road”
China invests staggering amounts of money in infrastructure these years, and new trade and supply routes are booming both in China and around the world - especially after the launch of the immense Silk Road Project in 2013. But how are you able to build at such a hoaxing speed and what are they local consequences in the areas where new roads cut through the landscape? This event is part of the series Docs & Talks organized by DIIS and Cinemateket. This documentary is the premiere of director Zanbo Zhang's, which gives a critical insight into the creation of the Xu-Huai Highway in the Hunan Province. We follow the road construction from several perspectives: the construction company, the workers and locals - and get caught up in a morass of corruption, gangsters and powerless citizens who are losing their homes and livelihoods.
Senior researchers Yang Jiang and Luke Patey from DIIS and Jun Liu, associate professor at the University of Copenhagen, will discuss the economic, developmental and social opportunities and challenges that arise in the wake of China's infrastructure projects, both locally and in the rest of the world. The debate is in English. After the film Docs & Talks hosts the festival’s opening reception in Asta Bar. The regular ticket price is 95.00 DKK. In addition is a fee of 5.00 DKK.

Seminar in Malmö: Housing and Displacement under Neoliberalism
This event is part of the Urban Seminar Series. During the event the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project, from San Francisco – USA will be discussed. The Anti-Eviction Mapping Project is a data-visualization, data analysis, and storytelling collective documenting the dispossession of San Francisco Bay Area residents upon gentrifying landscapes. Through digital maps, oral history work, film, murals, and community events, the project renders connections between the nodes and effects of new entanglements of global capital, real estate, high tech, and political economy. It studies the displacement of people but also of complex social worlds as certain spaces become desirable to such entanglements. Maintaining antiracist and feminist analyses as well as decolonial methodology, the project creates tools and disseminates data that contributes to collective resistance and movement building.
