Double degree programme

Each year a handful of students are selected for nomination to go to Fudan for the double degree programme. Students in this programme spend their second year at Fudan University in Shanghai, and take courses about Chinese society, culture, and politics. They will also write their thesis in Shanghai.

Overview of our Double Degree Programme

The Double Degree Master´s Programme is an agreement between between the Faculty of Social Sciences, Lund University, Sweden and the School of Social Development and Public Policy, at Fudan University, China.

Degrees Awarded

The students fulfilling the requirements for a double degree according to this Agreement will be awarded:

  • Degree of Master in Social Anthropology, Social Work, or Sociology with specialisation in Chinese Society at Fudan University
  • Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) in Global Studies or Development Studies or Social Studies of Gender at Lund University.

Double Degree Programme Course Structure

Courses at Lund University for students in Global Studies, Development studies or Social studies of Gender:

Courses at Fudan University:

  • Introduction to Chinese Society, 10 ECTS/3 Chinese credits
  • Introduction to Chinese Culture, 10 ECTS/3 Chinese credits
  • Chinese Social Development and Globalization, 10 ECTS/3 Chinese credits or Chinese Rural Society, 10 ECTS/3 Chinese credits or Chinese Demography and Social Policy, 10 ECTS/3 Chinese credits or Conducting Research in Chinese Context, 10 ECTS/3 Chinese credits or The Transitional Chinese Society, 10 ECTS credits/3 Chinese credits or Religion in Chinese Society, 10 ECTS credits/3 Chinese credits or Doing Fieldwork in  China, 10 ECTS credits/3 Chinese credits or Culture and Health, 3 ECTS credits/3 Chinese credits.

Note: Regarding the program structure and course curriculum of the double degree program, it is possible that revisions and additional courses may be made. Any updates or changes will be subject to discussion between both parties and agreed upon after consultation. 

The Master's Thesis 

The Master´s thesis (30 ECTS/10 Chinese credits) is supervised by the assigned professors and assessed by a joint evaluation committee from the Faculty of Social Sciences in Lund and the School of Social Development and Public Policy at Fudan University. The thesis is written in English. The students from Lund submit an abstract (around 5 pages) translated into Chinese. The thesis is defended on a seminar at the home university according to the home university’s procedures. The thesis is also defended at the host university. The students from Lund should complete the study in 4 years after registration. Degrees are issued separately according to the working procedures and regulations at Fudan University and Lund University.
