The course explores the various socio-political processes that have been taking place in the Middle East since the beginning of the 21st century.
Overview
Course content
The objective is to enable the student to learn and critically reflect on the current debates about the role of social movements, media, religion, institutions, the youth, the military, the evolving role of women in societies, and the environment. Through a critical inquiry embedded in social sciences, this course willunpack the underlying factors and forces, and processes of current events and processes in the Middle East.
The course starts with lectures and seminars on uprisings in the 21st century in the Middle East. Then students are introduced to internal and external actors shaping the Middle East today. The course finishes with a critical discussion of key socio-political processes taking place in the contemporary Middle East.
Online course platform
This course uses Canvas as the online course platform. The course platform will be opened two weeks before the course begins to all students who were accepted. Here you will be able to access literature, assignments, announcements, as well as participate in discussions and communicate with teachers.
